What is Dora's Garden?
Dora’s Garden is a seed garden and egg farm, located on the Cove-Union highway (Hwy 237) as you leave Union toward Cove.
Our farm first started operating under the name Dora’s Garden in 2003, named after our great great aunt, Dora Hutchinson. At the time, it was operated by Susan Isabel Boyd and her daughter. Susan created the image in our Dora's Garden logo, and the logo itself was created by Redbat Design.
Susan felt strongly that our agricultural practices needed to be sustainable. She had the farm certified organic by Oregon Tilth for many years. Susan remained eager to learn new information and continually adapted our processes to become more and more sustainable.
Following Susan’s passing in 2021, Dora’s Garden is now operated by Susan’s daughter, Dora Boyd Cohen. Dora is a 5th generation farmer who continues to prioritize the health of the soil and animals, and believes that increased ecological health will promote the well-being of our community. Dora also has a background as a soil ecologist, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

Where can I buy your seeds?
Dora’s Garden are sold under the label Sunny Eastern Oregon Seeds. Buy our seed packets from Good Groceries!
If you live in Union, Wallowa, or Baker Counties here in NE Oregon, your Good Groceries order can be delivered to you, along with many other goodies.
If you live elsewhere, you can still order online and have the seeds shipped directly to you.
Dora's Garden seeds are farmed according to guidelines from the Organic Seed Alliance and Seed Savers Exchange, as well as many books and references published on the topic. We check viability at the beginning of each year to ensure that the seeds we sell will germinate for you.

What are the sustainable practices you use?
We continue to use organic methods in the garden, which means we compost our own fertilizer on site, and any additional inputs to the garden or pasture are OMRI listed products. We do not use synthetic chemicals. Instead we put our chickens to work cleaning up bugs and we put grazing animals to work to clean up weeds.
We manage our grazing animals, including geese, goats, and sheep, to regenerate the soil according to principles learned from the Savory Institute and Holistic Management International. Dora’s other job is working for UVE, a regional hub of the Savory Institute that supports regenerative ranches and farms through holistic management.
